ProJo's Travel Notes: Gooseberry among best-beach winners

Newport's Gooseberry Beach is one of "20 Great American Beaches" selected by Travel + Leisure Magazine in this month's issue. "Protected by granite boulders and grassy dunes, Gooseberry's conditions are ideal for swimming or splashing in tidal pools," the editors write.
Ths list, which includes Hawaii as well as both coasts, names three other New England beaches: Ladies Beach on Nantucket and Cape Cod's North Beach in Massachsuetts, and Popham Beach State Park, Maine.
