Lila Delman to open island office

BLOCK ISLAND--Lila Delman Real Estate announced last week that it would open an office on Block Island, its fifth Rhode Island location.

The office on Water Street will join a handful of independently owned real estate companies on the island.

"We are excited about offering our Block Island clients a local presence as well as the international reach of Lila Delman Real Estate," Principal Broker John Hodnett said.

Sales associates Kaylan McAleer and Don Huggins will manage the office. McAleer has spent summers on the island and Huggins is an island native. The two will manage the office year round.

"There is an excellent inventory of houses here, many historic, with shingled beach houses giving Bock Island its unique flavor," McAleer said.

Considered largely a luxury market, the median home price is $1.3 million, according to the National Association of Realtors. The average home takes almost a year, 284 days, to sell.

Narragansett-based Lila Delman Real Estate specializes in the luxury homes market. Founded in 1964, it already has offices in Jamestown, Narragansett, Newport and Watch Hill.
