10 Signs of Fall in Newport
In addition to the crisp, clear weather and a bit of foliage, there are more things that signal the end of summer and the beginning of a new season in Newport.

1. Less boats and more empty docks and moorings every day
2. The festival/concert tent at the Newport Yachting Center disappears and the Ice Skating Rink returns
3. PARKING! – no more sticker parking and no more meters
4. the lifeguard stands at the beach disappear
5. the roses have a second (third or fourth if you have the right kind) bloom that surprises even those who enjoy it every year
6. the summer college kids are replaced with school year college students
7. visitors who arrive on the cruise ships enjoy our scenery and history
with less crowded streets and shops
8. the big yachts are at Newport Shipyard preparing for their sail south
9. the cannons at the 3 yacht clubs, which signal the flags going up at 8am and down at sunset, go silent
10. ??? any suggestions for #10?

How about you can go out to dinner on a Saturday night again!
Not only can you go out to dinner, but the restaurant specials start again. Start watching the papers for prix fixe meals, 2 for 1's, theme dinners, etc. This is a great one that I left out.
PUMPKIN IS BACK AT DUNKIN DONUTS!Coffee, muffins, donuts........
No more Cover Charge at the bars! :)
No more farmer's markets. :(
I love driving down Bellevue Avenue without bumper to bumper traffic. You can really appreciate the beauty of the buildings and the trees without all the distractions. Right after Labor Day, the difference is astonishing and every year I marvel at the big change.
You can finally take your dog to the beach again - anytime you like!
You can grab a bite to eat at the the Tavern side of the Black Pearl without having to wait an hour for a table
Little electric candlesticks start appearing in the windows of all the historic houses
The smell of woodsmoke
No more having to keep up with those pesky pedicure expenses...shoes & socks are back in season
New boots
Hot chocolate
No more cutting the grass
local farms bursting with cortlands, macouns, macs, grannies and empires, it's apple pickin' time
My idea for # 10:
Skate for Joy's first statewide launch happened this Fall with donated ice from St. George's School. This is the only organization in R.I. "lacing up" figure & hockey skates on low-income, at risk youth. The program started in Providence six year's ago and the entire SFJ team is thrilled to be inspiring children from the greater Newport area.
