Neighborhoods

Old Harbor

The heart of New Shoreham, the smallest town in the smallest state in the country, Old Harbor has been the busiest part of Block Island since the 1600s. The central concentration of shopping and storefront, Old Harbor is characterized by its classic buildings and locally owned businesses, with easy access to the beach and wide open ocean views.

New Harbor

Located at the southern end of the Great Salt Pond just off the Block Island Boat Basin, New Harbor is a central hub during the summer months. Just a 15-minute walk from the center of town or Crescent Beach, New Harbor is a hot spot for boating, offering scenery and fun waterfront dining options like Payne’s Dock.

Corn Neck

To the north of town, Corn Neck is an exclusive area offering a different kind of Block Island experience. With easy access to the rest of the island’s amenities, the north is where residents can get away from the summer crowds and enjoy the quiet natural beauty that surrounds them, like the Sachem Pond reserve and the Block Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Beaches

Mansion Beach

A secluded beach known for its big waves, accessible by car, bike & on foot, with limited parking.

1701 Mansion Rd,
New Shoreham, RI 02807

Scotch Beach

Scotch Beach is the best place for young adults and teens to “see and be seen”, with wide-open stretches of white sand and volleyball nets always set up. With bigger waves and very few rocks, it’s a great beach for body surfing and boogie boarding.

Black Rock

Good for all the same reasons as Vaill Beach, Black Rock is the best surfing spot on the island if the waves are right. Black Rock gets its name from the very large black rock at the shore line.
