Oakwood, Grand Newport Estate, Hosts Broker Event

Recently featured in The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal, and The Irish Times, Oakwood, the Narragansett Avenue estate once owned by Mary Alida Astor and America's Cup contender Peter DeSavary, was the setting for a gala party last Friday night, as friends and Christie's Great Estates representatives gathered for a view of the mansion and its spacious grounds.
Current owner Brian O'Neill, who also owns The Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, and Melanie Delman, President of Lila Delman Real Estate, Rhode Island's leading luxury property agency, hosted 200 professionals who traveled from as far away as Manhatten to get a private tour of the estate.
"We are concentrating on presenting Oakwood to an international audience, as there is a great interest in fine homes being shown by foreign buyers," said Ms. Delman. "It's a global market, and we're reaching out to strong economies like Ireland, which over the last decade experienced unprecedented economic growth to a level of real GDP almost double in size. Many of the brokers here are representing an interesting group of clients, as well: those who collect houses."
A trio played in the music room as guests admired the exquisite appointments, the art collection, and a rocking chair once owned by John F. Kennedy.
Oakwood is currently on the market for $10,750,000. For information, contact Melanie Delman at 401.284.4820.
