Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis sold his Cumberland home last month, after settling a civil lawsuit alleging he owed a contractor money.
Weis, now the head coach at his college alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, sold the nearly 5,000-square-foot home at 6 Avalon PLace for $820,000., according to Lila Delman Real Estate, which handled the listing. The property was assessed for $750,000.
The November 28 closing followed settlement of a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston by Massachusetts contractor Steven Benoit, who claimed Weis refused to pay him the full amount for the house he built in 2000.
Benoit claimed Weis owed him more tha $161,000. Terms of the November 10 settlement with a Chapter 7 trustee for Benoit's estate were not disclosed by the court.
The Cumberland house has four bedrooms, three baths and cathedral ceilings. Football fans would probably be most impressed, however, by a built-in plasma television that was a gift from New England quarterback Tom Brady.
Weis hasn't had much time to miss Cumberland, or the TV. He recently signed a new 10-year contract to coach Notre Dame's football team after leading the team to a 9-2 season and a Fiesta Bowl invitation on January 2.
Weis and his family now live in the Granger, Indiana home once owned by former Notre Dame coach Bob Davie, according to a university spokesman.
