The summer rental market in Rhode Island appears to be in recovery mode, with more people booking their beach getaways earlier this year than in 2010, according to brokers who manage vacation properties…

…Rentals have become a more important part of the real-estate business during the housing downturn. Last year, Lila Delman Real Estate ( www.liladelman.com), which specializes in Rhode Island’s coastal luxury market, hired Liz Brazil, who had operated her own Jamestown rental business, to strengthen its presence on Conanicut Island. (Delman had already hired away a successful Jamestown sales agent, Bob Bailey, from Island Realty).

Kim Churas, the rental manager at Lila Delman Real Estate, said her company manages bookings for about 150 summer rentals. She said that there are still “plenty of vacancies” left for people who are waiting until the last minute to book a summer getaway. “You can always get something,” she said…
